As the year 2020 came to a close, the consumer finance application landscape in Latin America showed varying degrees of user engagement and download trends. Data compiled by Sensor Tower provides an overview of how these apps performed in the fourth quarter.
Mercado Pago: cuenta digital, despite generating no revenue, experienced a steady flow of downloads starting at 700 thousand in the last week of September and dipping to 500 thousand by the end of December. The app's weekly active users started at nearly 16 million, peaked at over 18 million in late November, and ended the quarter with around 15 million.
Another strong performer in the region was PicPay: Conta, Pix e Cartão, which saw its downloads skyrocket to 1.8 million in early December, a significant jump from the 359 thousand at the beginning of the quarter. Active users peaked at over 10 million in early December, although there was a noticeable decline to 8.9 million active users by the year's end.
Nubank - Conta e Cartão showed a consistent download trend, ranging from around 400 thousand to 590 thousand throughout the quarter. Notably, its weekly active users remained robust, starting at over 20 million and maintaining that level to end the quarter with a similar figure.
CAIXA, the app by Caixa Econômica Federal, maintained a steady download pattern, with figures hovering between 350 thousand and 460 thousand. Its active users experienced a slight increase from 15 million to over 17 million in late November, followed by a dip to 15 million by the end of December.
Lastly, Banco Santander Brasil had a modest quarter in terms of downloads, maintaining numbers in the range of 200 thousand to 300 thousand. The app's active users saw a slight increase from 10 million to nearly 11 million in late November, but this figure receded to just over 10 million by the end of the quarter.
